Awesomeness, Online Coaching, and Books.

B.J. Keeton - Name Logo

Even though I’ve been pretty terrible at updating this blog for the past few months, a lot of awesome has been going on behind the scenes. Since that awesomeness very much affects you as readers of this superbly awesome blog, I figured I should update you about it all.

First of all, as of a few weeks ago, I am now a certified personal trainer. #squee #danceofjoy

I studied my tail off, and the first step of my plans is now finished. I chose the American Fitness Institute for my first certification so that I can start working with a few clients and get the ball rolling in a potential new career. I am going to get other trainer certifications, as well as credentials for weight loss and nutrition (right now, it’s between ACE and NASM because of my intended client base), and this one’s a really good start.

Long term, I want to use Geek Fitness as a jumping off point to do online training/coaching and weight loss consultation. I know my stuff in that area–I have the before and afters to prove it–and now I have the paperwork to back it up.

So over the next few months, I’m going to be working out the logistics of what I can do to help you guys achieve your weight loss and fitness goals. So keep an eye out and an ear open for some awesome projects in the near future.

(Plus, if you guys have any comments or suggestions about what you’d like to see from online coaching and consultation, shoot me an email or leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you!)

I’m in a book about running!

Secondly, you may remember a while back when Runner’s World did an interview with me for my weight loss. It was awesome, and I’m still ridiculously proud of it.

Since then, one of RW’s editors has put out a book, and I’m one of the success stories in it. You can read my story about beating exercise-induced asthma in Jennifer Van Allen’s Big Book of Running for Beginners. (Just search for my name in the Amazon “Look Inside” and you can find me, tee hee!)

And last, but not least, I have a new novel out. Yay!

While the ebook of Lineage was released in December, the paperback is only recently available on Amazon. So if you’re the kind of person who thinks that Ender’s Game and The Lord of the Rings having a Star Wars baby sounds like an awesome book, then you just might like my Technomage Archive series (and remember, if you sign up for my author newsletter, you can get Book 1 Birthright for free!)

I am about 2/3 of the way finished writing Book 3, and I expect to have it released this fall. So there’s not really a better time to get your science-fantasy on.

In the same vein, I was recently a guest on the Just Us Geeks podcast, where I talk about my books, the self-publishing industry, and my take on the new Godzilla reboot. You should definitely go over and give it a listen.

So what do you think about all this awesome? Sound off in the comments!

I also have a Substack that you would enjoy!

I’m very interested to hear how this turns out for you. I was thinking about doing something similar. Right now I’m a teacher, but don’t have a permanent job, and it seems like ever year there are more and more cut backs.

What advice would you give someone trying to follow in your footsteps?
